Service Employees 32BJ North Pension Fund
North Pension Fund Summary Plan Description (SPD)
>> Commencement of Benefits
Generally, benefit payments will begin in the first full calendar
month in which you have met all the requirements for the benefit form
you elect, provided the Fund has received a completed application
for benefits. However, if your Pension Start Date occurs after you
reach Normal Retirement Age, and you are not working in Prohibited
Employment (see Section 15), you can elect to receive your benefit paid
retroactively to the first day of the month following the later of the date
you reached Normal Retirement Age or the last calendar month in which
you terminated Prohibited Employment as explained in Section 15.
Alternatively, you can elect an actuarially increased benefit. However, if
you are married and do not waive the 50% Joint and Survivor Annuity,
your Spouse must consent to your election to receive a retroactive benefit
on a special consent form provided by the Fund Office.
Your benefit application must be filed with the Fund within the
90-day period before your Pension Start Date and you must specify on
your application the date that you wish payments to commence. You
may request an application form by writing to or calling the Fund at 101
Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10013, 1-866-231-3225.
If you are an Active Participant and you attain age 70½ on or after
January 1, 1999, you have the choice of beginning to receive your monthly
benefit payments as of the April 1 of the calendar year following the
calendar year in which you attained age 70½, even if you keep working in
Covered Employment, or upon your actual Retirement. However, except
if you are a five (5) percent owner of an employer, your monthly benefit
must commence no later than April 1 of the year following the year in
which the later of your Retirement or your attainment of age 70½ occurs
(or would have occurred with respect to a deceased Participant). If you
are a five (5) percent owner of an employer, your monthly benefits must
commence no later than the April 1 of the calendar year following the
calendar year in which you attain 70½, to the extent required by law.
